Using Gardening to Change Lives:
We know that gardening can bring
profound change, from
improvements in physical or
psychological health to adjustments
in beliefs, attitudes or behaviours to
the transformation of skills,
knowledge and abilities.
Thrive uses an approach called Social and Therapeutic Horticulture (STH), where trained Practitioners
work with plants and people to improve an individual’s physical and psychological health, outcomes
include:
• Better physical health and mobility through exercise
• Improved mental health through a sense of purpose and achievement
• The opportunity to connect with others – reducing feelings of isolation or exclusion
• Acquiring new skills to improve the chances of finding employment
• Just feeling better for being outside, in touch with nature and in the 'great outdoors'
Come and see for yourself on our Garden Tour for referrers, partners and stakeholders in our beautiful
Thrive Gardens in Kings Heath park.
We will show you round our amazing gardens, give you an overview of
your programs, see how we adapt our activities to ensure all client
gardeners experience meaningful activity and how STH improves well
being. Take time out and experience for yourself the benefits of this
special place and Social and Therapeutic Horticulture.
